The library's databases are the best place to find academic articles. Since journal articles are written for academic honor, all sources are cited, and published by university presses and academic organizations, you may trust that they have been thoroughly reviewed by an impartial jury before publication. The facts and perspectives included in an article regarding child abuse in a popular magazine are less likely to be accurate than those presented in a peer-reviewed journal such as Child Development or the Journal of Marriage and Family.

Typically, but not always, a magazine may be recognized by its:

  1. The journal's cover lacks color, and the table of contents is often shown there instead.
  2. Each article in the magazine is simply titled and credited to its author(s); there is no accompanying artwork.
  3. Journal is a common title element
  4. A journal's annual issues are collected and published as a single volume.
  5. Throughout the year, the pages of a diary are usually numbered consecutively.
  6. When presented with a plethora of articles, it may be difficult to determine which ones are the most worthwhile.Using citation searching to look for wetland ecological sources is one method for evaluating a group of papers.
